My mood board |
To begin with, I was asked to create a mood board to give me inspiration for my four designs. I went through magazines and pulled out all my favourite images, and as you can see, they are mostly all pink, red, yellow and white. Overall, I think I just like a feminine colour palette!
Then I drew up some pictures of clothes that I wouldn't mind having in my wardrobe and thought about which ones I had the skills to create. I decided to start with the simplest first and drew up the patterns for a cute little smock shirt based on a yoke with floaty, feminine sleeves. The front is gathered and the back has a cute little box pleat to allow some fullness for movement.
Off to the shops I went with my pattern in mind and came home with a couple metres of beautiful printed chiffon, perfect for my design and colour scheme.
Chiffon may look and feel nice, but it is not so nice to sew with! After some difficulties, a cute little shirt emerged to grace my wardrobe. The neckline and bottom of the sleeve holes are faced with self bias binding, and as the neck hole is large enough for my head to slip through, I didn't need any fastenings!
I'm looking forward to starting item number two!
